The part that catches people out is that a bought site still costs money every month. Hosting, a domain, certificate renewals, plugin updates and the small changes you cannot make yourself do not stop arriving because the invoice was paid once.
What you are actually buying from an agency
You are buying hours: discovery, design, build, revisions and a launch. Good agencies earn that money, and the result is genuinely yours, shaped around a business somebody sat down and understood.
What you are not buying is the future. The site is finished on the day it launches, and from then on it drifts. Prices change, a service is added, a browser update breaks a layout, and each of those is a new conversation.
The second invoice nobody mentions at the start
Ask any agency quote two questions. What does hosting and maintenance cost per month afterwards, and what does an hour of changes cost. The answers are usually reasonable and usually absent from the headline figure.
A cleaning company that changes its price list twice a year and adds a service in the spring is not a one-off customer. It is a small recurring bill plus a wait, which is the part that stings when a competitor updated their prices on a Tuesday afternoon.
What the subscription contains instead
One line covers the site, the hosting, the certificate, the backups, the updates and email support with real people. Plans run from Lite at £49 a month to Pro at £199, and you move between them without anything being rebuilt.
Changes are yours to make. Every piece of text has a pencil beside it, so a carpenter can add a new service on a Sunday night rather than emailing an agency and waiting until Wednesday. Paying yearly takes 20% off, and prices exclude VAT.
Hosting is part of the deal, not an add-on
Managed hosting comes with every plan. We run the servers and monitor them, so you never buy capacity, install anything or keep track of versions. HTTPS certificates are issued and renewed automatically.
Backups are taken every night and the restore is tested every night, so nobody discovers a broken archive on the worst possible day. Security patching is our responsibility, permanently. That is the recurring bill an agency quote usually leaves for later.
When buying from an agency is the right choice
If you need something genuinely bespoke, a booking flow shaped around rules nobody else has, or a design that has to match a wider brand exactly, buy the build. We are a narrower product on purpose and we will not pretend to be a design studio.
We suit service businesses that want a working site quickly, prices they can edit themselves and someone else holding the maintenance. If that is not the description, an agency is money well spent.
