This is not a criticism of WordPress as software. It is a comparison of how much work lands on you, which is the part that decides whether your site is still correct in two years.
WordPress can do anything, and that is the point
With a theme, a page builder, a booking plugin, a forms plugin, a caching plugin and a backup plugin you can build very nearly whatever you imagine. Millions of sites do, and many of them are excellent.
The flexibility is real and so is the price of it. Each piece comes from a different author, updates on its own schedule, and assumes the others behave. Nobody is responsible for the whole.
Who does the joining up?
On WordPress, you do, or you pay somebody. The core updates, the plugins update, occasionally two of them disagree and the booking form stops sending. Nothing announces this. You find out when a customer mentions they never heard back.
A carpenter is not badly served by WordPress because it is bad software. They are badly served because their evenings are worth more than plugin maintenance, and the maintenance does not stop arriving.
Booking as a plugin against booking built in
A booking plugin is a separate product that has to agree with your theme, your payment plugin and your caching. When it updates, your booking flow is the thing that might change shape.
Here, booking is part of the platform. A request form is included from Lite at £49 a month; from Plus at £149 customers pick a service, a day and a time, and can pay through your own payment account. There is nothing to install and nothing to keep compatible.
Managed means updates never become your evening
Managed hosting is included on every plan. We run and monitor the servers, apply the updates and close the security holes, and there is nothing on your side to install or keep in step.
HTTPS certificates are issued and renewed automatically. Backups run every night and the restore is tested every night, so nobody finds out on a bad Tuesday that the archive will not open. No plugin can go stale here, because there are no plugins to age.
When WordPress is the better choice
If you need a large content site, a membership area, a shop with complex stock, or something a developer will keep extending, WordPress will take you further than we will. It is genuinely more capable.
And if you already have a WordPress site that works, that someone competent maintains, leave it alone. Switching should be about the work you want off your plate, not about which logo is on the login page.
